Maudellen Newman Greenhood (December 30, 1933 – October 18, 2017)
Maudellen Newman Greenhood (Mel) died peacefully in her San Francisco home on October 18, 2017. She was born December 30, 1933 in Ardmore, OK, the daughter of Wilson Newman and Maud Lee. At sixteen she enrolled at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. in Economics.
Upon graduation, she left family and friends and took a life changing trip to San Francisco. Captivated by the beauty of the Bay Area, Maudellen remained in San Francisco the remainder of her life. She worked as a real estate and investment manager, and in 1964 married Robert Mark Greenhood. They spent 37 wonderful years together in San Francisco where they raised their beloved son, Robert Charles.
Appreciated for her intelligence and quick wit, her favorite pastimes, when she was not reading, were the performing arts and travel. She traveled the globe extensively and was blessed to have shared this passion with her husband and son. Her love for the performing arts led her to become a lifelong supporter of the opera, symphony and ballet, both in San Francisco and New York.
Maudellen is survived by her son, Robert Charles Greenhood of New York, NY. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Judy Gregory and her daughter Margaret, and Terry Nestel and her children Matthew and Rachael.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Donations may be made in her name to either the San Francisco Opera or the CPMC Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
